Youth Docent Interpretive Program

Program Description

The word docent is derived from the Latin word “docere,” meaning “to teach.”  A docent is a volunteer who guides visitors and tour groups through centers of history and art, telling the story of the collections and exhibits. Docents are active in museums and interpretive centers all over the world, and we’re proud to announce that with the encouragement and financial support of the Boe Brothers Foundation, 2008 will mark the pilot year of the Youth Program Interpretive Program for the Old Trail Museum.

Our objective is to honor the educational mission of the Old Trail Museum by actively engaging youth in Teton County in their own discovery and sharing of the history of this area.  The Docents will receive educational training, gather information, develop an interpretive program and conduct tours for the Museum's summer visitors.

Student Participation

The Docent Program is organized into two parts:

Docent Apprentices – Youth from Teton County aged 12 to 15

Docent Supervisors – Youth from Teton County, aged 16 to 18
