Student Intern Leadership Program

Program Description

A pilot program was started at the Old Trail Museum in the summer of 2008.  Split in two main parts, the program created opportunities for leadership training as well as summer children's interactive programs.  Over 370 children were served in a ten week period.  Hour-long classes were held Monday through Friday.  Over the summer, 50 individual programs were created by the Program Director and Intern students in the leadership program.

Your generous donations will help the Old Trail continue this service to our community.  Building on the momentum started last summer, returning staff and student interns would like to expand the children's program as follows:  Mondays and Wednesdays, ages 6-10, 1:30 p.m. class with ages 11-15, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m..  After evaluating last summer's program, it was determined the older children lost interest easily due to the activities being geared towards the younger set.  Adding a second class specifically for older children will allow the students to design each class in a more age appropriate manner.

Three students completed the student intern leadership program last summer (2008) earning a small stipend and, for the high school student, a scholarship towards higher education pursuits.  Your generous donations will assist the Old Trail Museum in continuing this service to the youth of Teton County.  Our objective is to honor the educational mission of the Museum by actively engaging the youth in leadership training opportunities.
